Betsie painted these kissing lemons from the spiritual desire to live in the present moment with the recognition that life is precious, fleeting, temporary. She saw the twinkle in her 7-year-old’s eyes as she made her own American Flag out of scrap canvas and a stick on the 4th of July, and Betsie wanted to bottle up that sparkle and drink it.
